Living Language Camp Guests
I love the variety of specialties that
our guests have brought to each session. Here are some who have visited
us in the past.
Habib
Cutolo
Professional Chef |
|
Habib Cutolo has been cooking
since he can remember. When most kids were watching Saturday morning
cartoons, Habib was watching Julia Child and the Frugal Gourmet. Habib
grew up learning the regional dishes of his native Peru from his mother,
and went on to study in the Culinary Arts program in San Francisco.
Habib's fabulous cuisine has graced the tables of such well known
East Bay restaurants as Triple Rock, Autumn Moon Cafe, "2b"
in San Francisco, and you can now sample his culinary creations at
Fonda restaurant in Albany. Habib will join us for a day of Living
Language Camp to guide us in the creation of a fabulous lunch. Along
the way we will take time to explore poetry and prose related to food,
and the process of preparing and enjoying it. We will take writing
breaks as we cook to find the language of our senses as we awaken
them with delicious tastes, textures and scents |

Darcy Vasudev
Mendhi (Henna) artist, Founder of Henna Lounge
SF |
|
California-born to an artistic family, Darcy began painting at
age two. She first saw henna'd brides in National Geographic. Disappointed
that techniques weren't described, Darcy began her own experiments.
Then, 10 years ago, a Moroccan friend invited Darcy for a magic
night of fragrant plum tagine, honeyed sweets, and rich coffee and
henna applied with syringes and toothpicks! Darcy went home with
a packet of fresh Moroccan henna powder and began adorning any friends
and relatives that would sit still. She has since developed her
own techniques and "secret family recipe".
Darcy also traveled in India with her husband
Anand, where she met and worked with local henna artists.
Henna Lounge was born in 2005. WIth the growing
demand for henna artists in the West, Henna Lounge was an overnight
success.
Now, Darcy's mehndi work is in high demand within
the Bay Area's vibrant multi-cultural community. Henna (or mehndi)
is a vital aspect of Indian, Pakistani, Moroccan, Yemeni, Persian,
Arabian, and Sephardic wedding traditions, and for auspicious occasions
of all kinds. Darcy is commited to keeping the beautiful traditions
of henna alive.

Does professor Trelawney
really see Harry's future? Did Lily Owens read her future in a jar
of Honey? Susan will teach us about palm reading and show us how to
discover what our hands say about us!
Here's a note from Susan:
I am a professional tarot card reader, astrologer, and feng shui
consultant in the San Francisco Bay Area with over 30 years' experience.
I've done thousands of tarot and astrology readings, and hundreds
of feng shui consultations. I was fortunate to be voted "Best
Astrologer" by SF Weekly in San Francisco, CA where I live.
Even as a child, I've always been interested in spirituality and
the magical world of symbols. Tarot, astrology, and feng shui offer
a symbolic language to transform our lives. I love what I do and
